Join local artist Lucy Wilkinson for a free, practical workshop inspired by the heritage of Tyne Theatre & Opera House.
As part of the theatre’s first Artist Commission, Lucy is creating a painted mural for the recently developed 1867 Hall. Inspired by the theatre’s historic auditorium and decorative details, the finished mural will celebrate the building’s rich history while creating a new point of interest for visitors using the Hall.
These special community workshops invite participants to play a hands-on role in the creative process. Using materials drawn from the theatre’s archives — including historic playbills, programmes, stencilled signs, and examples of theatrical and musical writing — Lucy will guide you in creating printed lino and collagraph artwork that will help inform and shape the final mural.
The sessions are open to everyone, whether you’re a complete beginner or have some creative experience. It’s a chance to explore the theatre’s heritage, try traditional printmaking techniques, and contribute to a unique new artwork for the venue.
Refreshments will be provided, and the 1867 Café will be open after the workshop for lunch.
