If you have a love for the theatre onstage or backstage, come and join us! There are a number of ways you can participate.

Tyne Theatre Productions (TTP) is Tyne Theatre and Opera House’s in-house amateur dramatic company, managed within the theatre’s Community Engagement & Participation strand.

TTP is a member-based company performing an annual production that raise funds for the preservation and restoration of Tyne Theatre & Opera House. As well as the annual production, in 2026 TTP will also take part in a Gala performance at the theatre in summer 2026, alongside Tyne Theatre Voices (our new community choir) and Tyne Youth Company.  There are additional opportunities to take part in events and workshops as part of TTOH’s community engagement work.

OUR 2026 PRODUCTION

We are delighted to announce that our 2026 production will be The SpongeBob Musical with performances at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House from Wednesday 18 – Saturday 21 February 2026.  Based on the beloved animated series, this musical features irresistible characters with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paleyby. 

Our cast membership is now closed and our Shadow roles filled, but if you want to get involved, we are still looking for the following: 

BAND

The SpongeBob Musical has an 18 piece orchestra, which will be fixed by our Musical Director. 

Reed 1, Reed 2, Trumpet, Trombone, Guitar 1, Guitar 2, Keyboard 1, Keyboard 2/ Guitar 3, Percussion, Drums, Violins 1 & 2, Viola, Cello and Bass.

Note* Reed 1 includes flute, clarinet, alto sax. Reed 2 includes oboe, bass clarinet, tenor sax. There is scope to split these roles further or play parts on alternative instruments.

Rehearsals: 

  • 3 evening sessions during Jan/Feb – 6-9pm (to be confirmed)
  • Sitzprobe: Sunday 8 Feb from 10am-2pm
  • Dress Rehearsal: Tuesday 17 February evening
  • Performances: Wednesday 18 February at 7.30pm; Thursday 19 February at 2.00pm and 7.30pm; Friday 20 February at 7.30pm; Saturday 21 February at 2.00pm and 7.30pm

If you are an accomplished musician and would like to be considered as a band member, please forward your CV to ttp@ttoh.uk by Monday 8 December.  We would prefer you to have pit experience, however if you are new to orchestras/bands ​we will accept a short (1 min max) performance video, showcasing your best piece.  This can be send via wetransfer or email to the above address along with your CV.

Please note, this is an unpaid opportunity. TTOH is a charitable organization with all proceeds from TTP annual production going towards the restoration and maintenance of our Grade 1 listed theatre.

BACKSTAGE ROLES

MEET OUR ARTISTIC TEAM
 
Sonia Hernandez – Director
Sonia is diving back in for her fourth adventure directing with Tyne Theatre Productions, and this one might just be the craziest yet! She’s previously steered The Full Monty, Rent, and most recently the epic Jesus Christ Superstar. When she’s not in the director’s chair, Sonia can usually be found backstage production managing for TTP or stage managing with theatre groups all across the North East.
Kate Walker – Choreographer
Kate trained at Italia Conte in London before returning to the North East and a freelance career as a dancer and teacher.  She recently choreographed Sister Act for Sunderland Theatre Company and is currently working on their production of We Will Rock You. Kate teaches dance to all ages and across all styles and is very much looking forward to her first production with Tyne Theatre Productions. 
Jennifer Wagstaff – Musical Director
A lifelong musical theatre fan, Jennifer’s MD experience includes 4 years with the Northumbria MT Society (Sweeney Todd, Bare, Fame) as well as MD for Tyne Theatre Production’s of Oklahoma in 2016.  After a number of years away from the North East, she is now back as Assistant MD with the Jubilee Theatre on their production Urinetown, and is excited to return as part of the TTP Artistic Team for SpongeBob the Musical
