Tyne Youth Company January Intake Now Open

We are thrilled to announce that Tyne Youth Company (TYC) — the Tyne Theatre & Opera House’s in-house youth theatre company — is now accepting new members for our January intake.

Whether you’re 7 or 17, a seasoned performer or just starting out, this is your chance to join a vibrant, supportive, and creative community.

Why Join Tyne Youth Company?

Perform on the Main Stage

TYC offers something truly special: the opportunity to perform on the iconic main stage of the Tyne Theatre & Opera House throughout the year. From our major annual production to festive pantomimes and collaborations, members don’t just rehearse — they shine under the theatre’s historic lights.

Be Part of Next Year’s Big Musical Extravaganza: HONK!

Mark your calendars: next year’s headline show for Tyne Youth Company is HONK! and members of the January intake will be at the heart of this spectacular musical. That means not only acting, singing, and dancing — but being part of something big and unforgettable.

Expert Training & Creative Growth

Weekly Saturday sessions (10:00am–12:30pm) give participants access to high-quality training in acting, dancing, and singing, led by our experienced facilitators and coaches. Our ethos — open to all abilities — means everyone is welcome, and everyone can grow.

A Rich Variety of Performance Opportunities

Beyond the headline production and HONK!, TYC members can take part in specialist workshops, the Christmas and Easter pantomimes, and local cultural events.

Develop Real-World Skills Through Arts Award

We’re an accredited Arts Award Centre, giving young people the chance to earn formal qualifications that recognise not just performance ability, but confidence, leadership, creativity, and communication. Completing Arts Award helps members build skills that will support them in further education, future careers, and everyday life.

Inclusive, Supportive Environment

TYC is committed to being a welcoming space where young people from all backgrounds can explore their passion for theatre. We work hard to create a safe, nurturing environment — with safeguarding at our core.

More About The Tyne Youth Company

The Tyne Theatre & Opera House is an accredited Arts Award Centre. TYC members will be encouraged to complete an Arts Award during their first year dependant on age and ability, with progression through the awards in subsequent years. This will give youngsters a formal award that recognises their artistic abilities, as well as their research and communication skills.

Head of Community Engagement & Participation, Rachel Snape said:

We’re absolutely thrilled to open our doors to a new group of young performers this January. Nurturing emerging talent is at the heart of what we do, and giving young people the chance to connect with our historic venue and become part of its ongoing story is incredibly special. Creating a supportive, lively space where young people of all backgrounds can build skills, confidence, and a lifelong passion for theatre is what Tyne Youth Company is all about — and we can’t wait to welcome more members in the new year.”

The weekly sessions will take place on Saturdays and will broadly follow the academic year.
