Join Beverley Prevatt Goldstein (Founder, African Lives in Northern England) to discover the untold stories of people of African heritage who performed at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House in the mid nineteenth century.
Discovered in our performance database are over a dozen African-Americans – the talk will highlight both their role in the innovation of performance theatre and the contested nature of black and white ministrly.
Beverley will also introduce other characters that illustrate the diverse history of our city across the ages.
In 2026 Tyne Theatre and Opera House will be a new location on the African Lives Walk in Newcastle.

The Tyne Theatre and Opera House box office is open for phone and in-person bookings from the 1867 Café Bar 10am-3pm Mon-Fri (or until show start if there is a performance that evening + an hour before weekend performances).
