Reports to: Head of Community Engagement & Participation

Period of Appointment: Saturday mornings 10.00am-12.30pm from Sept 2025-July 2026

Venue: Tyne Theatre & Opera House, central Newcastle

Salary: £100.00 per week with additional payment for production/performance days outside of weekly sessions and attendance at planning/evaluation meetings. Members of the Artistic Team may not be required for every Saturday dependant on agreed schedule.


Purpose of Role
To teach vocal sessions for Tyne Youth Company relaunching in September 2025.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Members of the TYC Artistic Team will work together to produce a teaching schedule that offers high-quality engagement across the academic year. The core engagement will be in drama and singing, taught weekly. Additional sessions in dance, musical theatre, comedy, improv etc will be scheduled in conversation with the CE&P team, dependant on upcoming performances and production requirements. Tyne Theatre Productions sits under the Tyne Theatre & Opera House Community Engagement & Participation (CE&P) strand and is governed by a committee of in-house staff and Trustees.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work with colleagues to produce a teaching schedule that offers high-quality engagement across the year.
  • To deliver purposeful, engaging group vocal sessions for members of TYC, specifically targeting vocal technique in order to give YP a solid grounding in this discipline.
  • To support TYC members with TTOH pantomime audition preparation.
  • To provide rehearsed material for the Spring production and Summer gala and any additional city-wide opportunities as agreed with the Head of Community

Engagement & Participation

  • To participate in planning and evaluation meetings at TTOH when required
  • To work with the CE&P team to secure specialist leaders for occasional workshops
  • To act as an ambassador for the youth company in the North East, nurturing relationships and communicating opportunities.
  •  To provide information for governance committee meetings when requested.
  • To share in the TTOH’s commitment to protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults by being fully compliant with the venue’s Safeguarding Policies, in addition to all other relevant venue policies

Role Requirements

  •  Professional, specialised experience in a key skill within a youth theatre or community setting
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills

  • Vision and enthusiasm for, and alignment with, TYC’s mission
