Ruth Nicholson was a pioneer in the field of women and medicine, described by the Royal College of Midwives as “one of the foremost medical women in the North of England”.
Her story is inextricably linked with that of Elswick where Ruth and her family lived for many years.
During this period Elswick underwent a major transformation, becoming a densely built suburb of the city of Newcastle, as well as one of the foremost industrial areas in the country.
This illustrated talk from local historian Judith Green will talk about Ruth Nicholson’s life and achievements in the context of the dramatic  development of Elswick from rural to urban area in the latter half of the 19th century.
Tea/coffee included. Lunch available in the 1867 Café Bar

“All prices include a venue levy and £2.50 booking fee (listed as cmsn during the checkout process) unless otherwise stated. All fees apply whether booking online, over the phone or in person at the box office.
