Podcasting cult hero. “Wetherspoons’ own Hunter S. Thompson” (British Comedy Guide)
Following his record-breaking Waterslide tour, Jamie Hutchinson is back with Can My Mate Come? He’s Sound. — a brand-new hour of unfiltered mayhem, questionable logic and emotional chaos held together by takeaway boxes and blind optimism.
Waterslide was a “masterclass in self-caricature” (British Comedy Guide). Now Jamie returns. Older? Technically. Less hair? Absolutely. Wiser? Absolutely not.
Armed with a bottomless pit of mad stories, misjudged decisions, and a unique ability for making the absurd feel profound, Jamie delivers what the British Comedy Guide called “rapid-fire gag-darts”.
Whether you’re a fan or just here because someone said “He’s Sound” – good luck. You’re on his night out now.

(Due to the completion of restoration work over the summer, seats in the Gallery are on a new seating plan for the performance on the 9th May. The lower gallery is now named the Amphitheatre.)
In 2025 our Grade 1 listed Victorian Theatre was awarded £247,500 from The National Lottery Heritage fund, along with matched funding from the Tyne Theatre and Opera House preservation trust this has enabled us to carry out some much needed restoration to our historic Gallery tier.
The work, made possible thanks to money raised by National Lottery players commenced in Summer 2025 and involved the lowering and restoring of traditional sightlines to improve audience comfort, safety and view. This has been achieved by removing a timber overlay, fitted above the original seating rows in 1986, to restore the original seating layout, which improves the sightlines requires less obstructive handrails. This work has also increased the capacity of the gallery tier. New seating designed in a heritage style, accounting for twenty-first century comfort, has been installed supported by a team of new and existing volunteers.
You can book for the gallery via the link below or on the tickets & times tab on the main booking page.
