Tyne Theatre Productions announce The Spongebob Musical
Tyne Theatre Productions, based at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre & Opera House, have announced their 2026 production which will take place at the Grade I listed venue during February half-term 2026.
The Spongebob Musical, an exciting new musical based on the beloved animated series, will be performed at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House from Wednesday 18th – Saturday 21st February 2026.
In this dynamic and playful stage show, the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home. SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world!
The all-singing, all-dancing production, based on the series by Stephen Hillenburg and book by Kyle Jarrow, features original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s and more.
Jonathan Higgins, CEO of the Tyne Theatre & Opera House has said “We’re so excited to be bringing such a fantastic family show to life on our stage next year. Following the recent successes of ‘School of Rock’, ‘9 to 5’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, we think this may just be our most popular production yet.”
